Notes on VFD's used in my shop
Freqrol U100This is a small half horse 240 volt VFD which should be handy for running a coolant pump. |
MVX9000I got this one on eBay and forgot to check the input voltage. When it arrived I found that it needed 480 volts which I did not have handy. I bought it to run a high speed washing machine motor which runs on 120 Volts, so I needed to get creative on both ends to make this work. It turned out to be a learning opportunity and this VFD was up to the task. |
Freqrol Z200This was another eBay purchase. The bid was for a lot of three. One was missing the user keypad. These are large for 2 HP, they are old and not very smart but built like battleships and work well. |
SJ200 and Freqrol E500These are installed on my HNC lathe. The E500 runs the coolant pump. The SJ200 is the only VFD I bought new. I didn't know much about VFDs at the time I got it and this one was smart, small for its power rating, had Modbus and was on sale. I like this one. |

Yaskawa 606PC3This VFD is installed on my Shizuoka mill. A pair of opto-couplers act as switches on the Forward, Reverse terminals. Another opto-coupler switch passes a PWM signal to the potentiometer terminals (8,11) with an RC filter. The speed varies about 2% which works fine, but I would rather not see any speed command noise. |
