Here is where the detent is done. A leaf spring pushes a roller angainst the gear like disk. The wheel rotation is light enough and the sping force heavy enough to keep the wheel centered on a mark when the wheel is released. This MPG happens to be in good shape. |
This detent roller is badly worn and made for two very light detents per wheel mark. The center cylinder should be round and smooth and _not_ look like a gear. I will need to make a new one. (The ball point pen tip is included for size reference.) |

I made a new roller from mild steel to the above dimensions. The MPG works like a new one now. |
